SEVENTEEN SHITTY MOUNTAINS aka SHITTY SUN TUNNELS including HERMAPHROHENGE aka SCOTTHENGE aka SHITTY STONEHENGE & the SEWER DRUIDS is the 2nd iteration of a site-specific installation project, created in this time forWasserman Projects, along with SEVEN SHITTY MOUNTAINS created within Detroit's Eastern Market. Assembled from dozens of discarded concrete sewer pipes and other debris found around a decades-vacant Detroit Water & Sewerage building, the towers and sculptures riff on the concrete and stone desert artworks of Ugo Rondinone (Seven Magic Mountains), Nancy Holt (Sun Tunnels), and Michael Heizer (City, Double-Negative). Painted with flourescent DayGlo paints, the works can reach 15 ft tall, and weigh up to 11 tons, creating a monumental mysterious megalithic future-ancient archaeo site, and the glowing concrete-oculus henge of your dreams. The project was featured inDetroit Art Review |
